Chemical Pollution

Another course of action that destroys the marine environment is the act of dumping chemicals in the waters. Bringing toxic waste into the ocean may not be done so easily as plastic, but it still happens frequently. The National Geographic has also stated that “Common man-made pollutants that reach the ocean include pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers, detergents, oil, industrial chemicals, and sewage (Howard). These pollutants are affecting the health and structure of what remains below the water, deteriorating marine life as they consume it once it enters their environment. This can also cause damage to our own health when we eat fish, seaweed, or anything else that is caught or brought from underwater. While people are continuing these kinds of practices, thinking it’s an easy alternative to release what they have in the ocean, it’s only hurting another ecosystem, and causing some of its species to become extinct.
